Yours Sincerely, The Sea

There is something so lulling in the sound of the sea. Yet the way it can be a calming song or destructive nightmare is something so curious. Perhaps if the sea was a person, it would be an old, bearded and happy man with so many millions of years worth of stories to share that we'll otherwise never know. The seaspray on our cheeks woke us up as if we'd been drifting around half-asleep for so long. We sat and watched the tide come in with stinging fingers that gloves could not even warmly embrace. In that hazy shade of grey winter everything felt like a slow motion film. There was a quiet talk about maybe one day owning an old wooden rowing boat and having a little house by the sea. At night in summer we open our bedroom window and lie on the bed pretending the dull hum of the city motorway in the distance is actually the sea. One day it would be nice for it to be a reality. If we could cartwheel, I'm sure we would've done in happiness along the tide.

      2. So glad to have found your beautiful spot! Lovely sea photos. I too used to imagine the motorway hum was the sea (but now I live by the sea with not a single motorway in the county!)
        1. We're glad to have found your beautiful corner of the web too (thank-you for sharing!) It's lovely to hear someone else has imagined that same hum to be something else too. So happy that you now live by the sea and don't have to imagine any longer, that must feel incredible to wake up to! [:

      4. What gorgeous photos. They've really touched me. I've not been to the coast in ages but I always feel better when I've seen the sea- I feel calmed by it and like it has put everything into perspective.
        1. Thank-you Colette, that is incredibly wonderful to read! The sea does have such a grounding affect, I think it makes everyone reflect in some way or another. I hope you get to see the waves very soon. [:

Until one day, when I made the choice and moved to Donegal, by the sea...It's not a dream any more and is far from a nightmare..
        1. I can only begin to imagine what an incredible change that must've been for you, as well as an absolute dream come true. Donegal is breath-taking, my Pa's family came from there so it holds a very special place in my heart and I hope to visit again one day very soon. x

      12. Ah these are so beautiful. You guys are such a beautiful couple <3 hmmm cartwheeling by the sea... I did that a lot this past summer when I was up in Maine. Even though my cartwheels are laughably bad, there is nothing better than the dizzying rush of blood to your brain and the way the world turns as you kick up sand and rocks.
        1. Oh bless, you're incredibly kind, thank-you! Plus you really opened up a perspective of cartwheels, it's funny, I never thought about the blood rush to the ears as you spin over. Oh to be able to cartwheel at all (please teach us!)

I always dream of living with the beach as my back garden, being able to step out your back door and feel the warm sand creep through your toes and always getting a whiff of the salty sea air, it would be so perfect. These photos are so adorable as always, I only wish me and my boyfriend would have cute photos to look back on like you two do. Beth x
        1. That sounds absolutely idyllic and perfect, I hope your dream home comes true for you and then you and your boyfriend can take photos of one another on the seafront any time you want! [:

        1. The openness of the sea can be so comforting, you saying the word "claustrophobic" is spot on. Its mysteries, dark depths to bright blues are so appealing. I like how it connects us all around the World. [:

      18. Your words and images have renewed my love for the sea. When the boy and I went travelling last Summer we visited so many beaches, in so many different places, in all sorts of weather - every time we walked along the sand, feet ensconced in wellies, became my favourite time. I have such fond memories. I hope, one day, your dream becomes reality. Tori xxx

        1. That is so wonderful to read about, Tori. The sea always holds such firm memories, maybe it's something about growing up on an island where most of our childhoods were spent by the sea and every time we return our love for it only ever grows. <3
